Yesterday the weather reports were already filled with news of the approaching storm. It was kind of hard to believe, given that we’ve already been pummeled to death with snow this winter, and also because the sky seemed so serene on the western horizon, where the sun was setting.

But today the storm arrived on schedule, and when I got home from work, the sidewalks were coated with ice. I tossed handfuls of salt on the ground and hoped that I wouldn’t get ‘hit’ with a slip-and-fall lawsuit.

I worried about the trees, although the icy branches did look beautiful glistening under the street lights.
