The Fort Tryon Park Project (Washington Heights)

Yesterday was the Medieval Festival at Fort Tryon Park. It looked like people were having fun, but we wanted to enjoy the heather garden, which was less crowded.

“Hi, we’re ferns!”

Even during what is probably the most challenging time of the year for color in the garden — at least a New York City garden — the path was bordered with an array of plants, some of which were still in bloom.

Heather looks good in any season, of course.

This tree was ready for Halloween.

The oak-leaf hydrangea had a good summer.

But seriously, is there anything better than a field of heather?

The answer is, no, there is not.

I’m already looking forward to this winter, when the heather will be in bloom.
