The Morris-Jumel Project (Washington Heights)

We decided to take a walk around the grounds of the mansion.

Many people were out enjoying the November weather — oddly, all of them were invisible.

A few years ago the groundskeepers had started an herb garden meant to replicate one that existed a few hundred years ago. I think that plan was a bit too ambitious, and they’ve now opted for a range of potted annuals and perennials, some of which were still in bloom. (I’m not sure what this flower is, but I like the color.)

According to the sundial, it was “shade o’clock” in the afternoon.

When I made the joke, all of my invisible friends on the park benches laughed.

Some of the older trees are probably going to have to come down post-Sandy.

The newer trees, however, seemed very healthy in the autumn sun.
