The Garden Project (Grape Harvest)

The grape harvest comes early to Washington Heights.

It seems like just a few days ago that the flowers were hanging down from the arbor.

Now we have clusters of ripening (and seedless!) red grapes.

Growing something edible makes you realize how difficult it would be to “live off the land.”

Or at least it would be difficult for me.

We noticed an unusual bird with a very long tail (possibly a “brown thrasher”) who was enjoying the grapes and clearly concerned that we were going to harvest them all.

We told him (her?) not to worry; given my renewed appreciation for the difficulty of growing food, I wanted to share the bounty.
