The March of the Forsythias II (Fort Tryon Park)

Today I taped my bike together and rode north to Fort Tryon Park, where the forsythias were intense.

This shot is from across the archway, not far from the Cloisters.

I couldn’t stop taking pictures.

For some reason they weren’t quite as impressive up close: maybe it lacked a sense of scale.

A sense of these avalanches of yellow flowers cascading down the mountain.

There were other flowers on display, such as this weeping cherry. (I think.)

And this white magnolia.

I think.

the heather garden was equally ‘triptastic.’

Dotted with blue … grape hyacinth (maybe)?

The elm in the background just waking up.

Daffodils everywhere, flitting about.

This is like a picture of spring break, except instead of the beach in Florida filled with drunk teens, it’s daffodils in Fort Tryon Park. There was perhaps a time when I might have preferred the former.

Here’s a pink cloud that I think might be another magnolia, but in bush form?

I couldn’t get very close because of the fence.

Like the daffodils, I just peered.

The path through the heather garden. Above, the frondescent green haze of the elms.

My name is Heather Phantasmagoria, what’s yours?

Let’s all take a moment to thank Bette Midler, the patron saint of uptown parks.

Before we are buried under ten feet of rolling forsythia.
