The Kitten Project (Week One): Dreams of Blue Flowers

During the first week, we learned that cats are remarkably self-sufficient when it comes to raising their offspring. Basically, if you give them a warm box, food, and water, the mother will do all the work. She feeds them, she cleans them, she keeps them warm and safe. (She also looks objectively adorable.)

The kittens are still very small and will chirp and squeak if you pick them up.

“I know how to raise six kittens without Googling anything.”

We speculated about the father, given that four of the kittens are tabbies, one is all black, and one is a tuxedo. Like so many fathers throughout history, however, this one was MIA.

“Men as a rule are only one step below flying snakes, if that.” — Elektra

As the days passed, the kittens’ eyes began to open.

The world is a frightening place!

But it also has a few bright spots, as our garden proved.

“Let us pray that all of the kittens will find more beauty than terror in the years ahead.” — Frank Lloyd Wright’s statue (reproduction)

This new phlox is seriously amazing.

Collective dreams of blue flowers.

The future is uncertain.

But for now things are pretty good.

(If you or anyone you know would like to adopt one of these kittens in ~9 weeks, please get in touch!)
