This was the week Clio got interested in politics. “Why is there nobody running for President who I can relate to?” she asked. “They haven’t said a single thing about teen moms!”

“Lol.”

Some people were confused by the election. “What year is it again?”

While others were predictably pessimistic. “Wake me up when it’s over.”

In more important news, we installed our “dream trellis scenario” in the back of the garden where we had to rip out the dead bamboo.

The new strategy is to grow a clematis on the trellis and fill the lower part of the trough with flowering perennials. (And some annuals, at least this year, if I’m going to be perfectly honest.)

I miss the bamboo, but we’re getting a lot more light back there, which is probably better, particularly now, when in previous years our garden would devolve into a dank, green cave.

This year we have more color and light, which makes everyone happy.
