Hashtag Gods, Stray Cats, and Heather Gardens Are All Symbols in the Same Dream

1. Looking at the distorted reflection of the George Washington Bridge on the Hudson River was a daily reminder that, especially in 2017, the dream world is better than reality.

2. As is the world of purple wildflowers found in the rocks and grass along the riverbank.

3. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to focus my attention on the constant turmoil that seems to define so much of life/Twitter. Why pay attention the dull greens of our late-summer garden, for example, when I can highlight the orange flowers of the cross vine, notwithstanding the fact that these flowers only last a day before being swallowed up by the green?

4. There is one aspect of reality to which I remain tethered: as usual, I’ve been agonizing about the fate of a very friendly stray cat who’s living in front of the neighboring apartment building. At the moment, he (or she) is getting enough to eat and can sleep on the sill, but what happens when it gets cold?

5. I wondered what this cat was dreaming about.

6. My point is that there’s a very charming little cat on our block. If you’re looking, you know where to reach me 🙂

7. In Fort Tryon Park, other dreams were unfolding. For example, the red berries were a harbinger of fall.

8. The heather remained impossibly beautiful.

9. Here it was easy to imagine a world without needy cats (or angry Republicans). Or Twitter.

10. This garden, like the distorted reflection of the George Washington Bridge in the Hudson River, was a temporary reprieve.

11. Everyone I spoke to agreed: “Twitter has gotten so much worse!” which raised the question of why it hasn’t disappeared.

12. It was similar to something else that seems to be getting worse but has not yet disappeared.

13. Perhaps, I thought, there was a connection.

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO’S BEEN POSTING DREAMY (in the Audrey Horne voice) PICTURES OF YOUR COPY OF #GODS IN YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA FEEDS.
