Notes on the Cold Front

1. The park, like everyone and everything else in the city, was freezing.

2. It didn’t stop me from running, although to be honest these pictures were taken a few weeks ago. Twenty degrees (Fahrenheit) is my cutoff, and so I ran on the treadmill at the gym. It was torture but I lived to write about it.

3. I missed the park. When I was younger I used to want to travel to as many places as possible, but now I want to go to the same (beautiful) place as many times as I can. Or, realistically, three or four times each week; enough to see the changes as they unfold.

4. At home, everyone looked out the window with a mix of longing and relief.

5. The path didn’t have a single paw print, which made me hope the strays had found someplace to weather the front.

6. As I thought about the coming year, it was not my only hope.
