Almost overnight, it seemed, the park had transformed into a lush, green landscape.

The azaleas had given way to the rhododendrons.

Actually, there were still some azaleas.

Time was moving quickly.

I kept seeing references to things happening in 2028.

Everyone was on the move.

The world was heating up, even though everyone was now pretending that it wasn’t.

We recently made the decision to remove the dogwood from our garden. Unlike this one, ours was cramped and unhappy.

I felt guilty cutting it down, but I was relieved when it was gone. I also felt happy knowing that it was going into the composting program, even though I sometimes worried that the composting (and recycling) goes to the landfill.

Without the dogwood, the garden seemed more alive, somehow.

There was more light.

The future didn’t seem so dreadful.
