Hello. Welcome to my ‘About’ page. I began blogging in 2007 as the ‘The Gay Recluse’ and switched to my own name in 2009. Why am I still blogging? As much as I don’t like to be nostalgic, I miss the pre-Twitter/Instagram/Substack blogosphere, when the internet felt sophisticated enough to communicate freely but had not yet been commodified and ‘platformed to death’ the way it is now. This blog is my ongoing attempt to retain that spirit. I will never subject you to ads or fundraising drives! I am not interested in your personal data! If you have your own blog and you think I might enjoy it for whatever reason, please send it to me. I love reading blogs! So many of the great ones are gone now. What else can I tell you? I live in Washington Heights (Upper Manhattan, near the George Washington Bridge), and I work in book publishing. I have written novels and have played in indie-rock bands. (You can read more about these things by clicking through to the ‘Music’ and ‘Literary’ pages above.) I have gone to some of the places but not to all of the places. Somehow time has passed, and I am older now than I once was. And gayer. If you’re new here, you can find below a few ‘featured posts’ to maybe get you started. There are literally thousands more in the archives, and thousands more still to come. (I hope.) If you have questions or comments, I can be reached at mattgallaway@gmail.com.
