
After the smoke cleared, I went to the park, fearing the worst, but the gardens seemed as lush and vibrant as ever.

I wondered how the plants and animals cope with everything we inflict on them.

But as they pointed out, they don’t have much choice.

I thought about my mother, whose mind is slowly giving way.

‘I don’t know why I feel so fuzzy,’ is something she says multiple times in any given conversation.

‘I know what you mean,’ is something I’ve sometimes said in response, and it’s not completely untrue.

So much of the world is incomprehensible.

But thankfully, so much of it is also beautiful.
