What Goes On (Clio Be Good)

Coming back from Pittsburgh, I was greeted by the annuals, which in the new era may never die.

I resumed my regular days and went to work downtown. The blue sky made me want to run, but I’m in week six of a foot injury. According to the doctor, it’s a ‘bone bruise,’ which is not quite as bad as a stress fracture, but still not great. The good news is that I expect to be running again within a few weeks, and after a period of protracted negotiations, I’ve obtained a formal agreement with my body not to ever get injured again. The last time I went out with the Front Runners in Central Park, I met a 62 year-old guy who recently ran a five-minute mile. (Which is pretty fast for any age.) He said that as he gets older, runners who used to be very fast stop running because of the injuries, and I said that I was trying not to be one of those guys. Thirty minutes later, however, I was limping back to the group breakfast, having somehow obtained a bone bruise in the course of my run. But like I said, it won’t be happening again!

‘It’s hard to get old’ — everyone except Marina Abramovic, who recently said, ‘I love old age. I suffered so much when I was young. Now, every day is like a miracle.’ I’m hoping to see Marina at a track workout at Riverbank State Park in the near future!

The toad lilies are in bloom, just in time for Halloween.

There has been another cat in the garden, which means a lot of stare-downs.

Fortunately, the visiting cat seems well cared-for and unaggressive.

Which is not to say that Clio is happy to receive guests.

She is already on high alert looking for flying snakes.

And squirrels. This one has been coming around for years. Do squirrels get old, or are they immortal?

‘Don’t bother me, I’m on high alert.’ — Clio

This is the expression I’ve been trying to master for meetings at work.

Although ‘perpetual surprise’ is another good option.

This is an expression that says ‘get up and do something!’ which is also good at work and beyond.

But like anyone, Clio enjoys her time off and is very good at relaxing.

We can resume work tomorrow. Today we have done enough.
